Consider our spruced-up artisan Cat-O’-Nine-Tails whip: This is an instrument designed for ritual flogging featuring 36 spruce wood beads, four to each of its nine extra-long tails. Our Cat will not lacerate the skin like its traditional ancestors did, but for ritual flogging as well as on stage, for example in a Passion Play or as a Lenten display prop, it will drive home the idea. The wooden beads add additional bite as well as sound.
Fashioned with 6mm cotton rope, each extra-long tail ends with three knots and four spruce beads. The smooth grip lies well in the hand for a balanced swing. You want to give yourself some room to fully benefit from the length of the tails as they measure two feet on average.
The cotton rope we use for our rope whips is a natural, biodegradable product, untreated by nasty chemicals. It is exceptionally durable and retains its strength and its knots well without requiring maintenance.
