Here at CordsOf Penance Workshop, we craft traditional rope whips for personal as well as theatrical use. Consider our hand-tied, custom Cat-O’-Nine-Tails rope whip: This is an instrument designed for ritual flogging. Our Cat will not lacerate the skin like its traditional ancestors did, but for ritual flogging as well as on stage, for example in a Passion Play or as a Lenten display prop, it will drive home the idea.
The Purple Edition Cat-O’-Nine-Tails features a purple-dyed rope grip. As a liturgical color, purple symbolizes penance, preparation, and sacrifice. Therefore, purple is used during Advent and Lent first and foremost, encouraging the faithful to pursue self-examination and spiritual growth. Purple is also worn during funerals where it symbolizes mourning as well as hope of the resurrection.
Fashioned with 1/4″ sisal rope, each of the nine tail ends with three evenly spaced knots. The sturdy grip lies well in the hand for a balanced swing.
The sisal rope we use for our rope whips is a natural, biodegradable product, unoiled, and untreated by nasty chemicals. It is exceptionally durable and retains its strength and its knots well without requiring maintenance like oiling, waxing, or other methods of conditioning. Sisal whips get softer with time and use, without diminishing the impact.
If you are looking for a theater prop, this unique whip would be a good choice due to its length and large number of falls as well as knots, not to mention the fitting grip color.
All our rope whips and Disciplinas are discreetly packaged. Buy with confidence!
