For you consideration, we offer a limited quantity of discipline whips made from 100% all-natural hemp.  A discipline whip, also known as a flagrum or scourge, is an ancient instrument of penance and spiritual discipline. Here at Cords of Penance, we make our disciplines by hand and with care.  Hemp rope is naturally heavy – noticeably heavier than sisal of the same size – and feels smooth to the touch, very much like cotton in this regard.  Our whips are tried and tested, and found to do the job very well without much ado.

The 19″ Seven-Fall Hemp Discipline Whip (Cordage Size 6mm, i.e. just over 1/4″) has an average size grip and medium length falls.  Together they add up to a total of 19″ in length which is the preferred choice of the majority of our customers.

Our Discipline design has been extensively tested with over 10,000 strokes and holds strong.  Rope disciplines are impact whips that do not break the skin easily, although bruising may happen, depending mostly on vigor and frequency of use.  Whips like ours are intended to add an edge to meditation and fervency to prayer, rather than draw blood.  Customers have repeatedly confirmed that our disciplines lie well in the hand and are easy to use with satisfying results, making them the perfect tool for meditative penitential spiritual practices.

The 100% hemp rope we use for this discipline is a natural, biodegradable product, grown without pesticides and herbicides, processed without using chemicals. This pure, unmixed hemp rope won’t cause allergies or fray easily, and it does not contain synthetic oils. It is strong, mold- and UV-resistant, exceptionally durable and retains its knots very well.  You need neither oil, wax, nor otherwise condition your Seven-Fall Discipline Whip.
